Biography
I have been teaching the Suzuki method for 30 years, 15 at University of Puget Sound Community Music and 15 years at my studio which is equipped with two grand pianos. I hold a B.M. from the University of Puget Sound having received several scholarships and a M.M. in piano performance from the University of Washington. While pursuing my Master's degree I began study of the Suzuki method, traveling to workshops in California, Chicago, Canada, Washington and Oregon including work with Dr. Haruko Kataoka from Japan. I continue to study Dr. Suzuki's philosophy every summer with clinicians from across the country. Great teaching is a life-long and exciting goal.
Although teaching is the primary focus of my career, I have performed as a soloist and accompanist with both piano and voice. Too many musical experiences to mention here, this varied background serves to enrich the student of all levels. In Japan, it is very important that the early years are handled by a committed teacher.
I'm also a member of the Tacoma Chapter music teacher association where my students have been recognized in play-off competitions, Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, Piano Basics foundation, Washington State Suzuki Association and Suzuki Association of America.
In addition to a studio of 25 students ranging in age from 4 to adult, I accompany the Northwest Repertory Singers, an acclaimed choral organization.
